Here are some ideas to practice our word wall words at home:
  • Flash cards

  • Games:
          Go Fish: With a set of word cards play “Go Fish.” You can easily make your own cards out of index
          cards.
 
          Tic-Tac-Toe: Write words in the tac-tac-toe spaces. Take turns selecting a space to read. If read  
           correctly, an X or O is placed on the space until someone wins.
 
          Hide and Seek: Write the words on index cards and hide them around the room/house and have your  
          child find them and say the words.


  • Make the words using:
         Playdough
         Shaving cream on a tray
         Stamps
         Wiki Sticks
         Magnetic letters


  • Type out the words.

  • Write the Words:
         Stair Step Writing the words, for example with the word like:

         li
         lik
         like
 
         Write down some words from the word wall that have the following number of letters (write out each  
          word 3 times):
          3:
          4:
          1:

 
            Write down some words from the word wall that begin with the following letters (write out each word 3  
         times):
          l:
          t:
          a:
 
          Write the words in chalk
 
          Rainbow write the words: use different color markers/crayons/coloring pencils for each letter.
 
  • Clothespin Words: Write letters on clothespins and have your child build the words.  You can pint he clothespins on an index card.
